A Shared Struggle: Stories of Palestinian & Irish Hunger Strikers

Unique book which brings together for the first time the experiences of surviving Palestinian and Irish Republican hunger strikers and the represssive role of Britain in thwarting both Palestinian statehood and an independent Ireland.

These are very personal stories—from both male and female political prisoners—about survival under appalling conditions but demonstrate a link of international solidarity among oppressed peoples.

Included are the personal experiences of 24 Palestinian and 7 Irish hunger strikers¾in their fight to win their basic rights. The intersectionality of the two struggles is highlighted in the book.

The stories provide an answer as to why a prisoner might choose starvation (sometimes to death) over accepting humiliating prison conditions. The contributors to this book hope that it will serve as another bridge that connects Palestine with Ireland and makes more people across the world aware of the plight of Palestine political prisoners in Israeli jails today.
