Origanum Syriacum (ZA'ATAR) Essential Oil 

Za'atar is a generic name for a family of related Middle Eastern herbs from the genera Origanum (oregano), Calamintha (basil thyme), Thymus (typically Thymus vulgaris, i.e., thyme), and Satureja (savory). The name za'atar alone most properly applies to Origanum syriacum, considered in biblical scholarship to be the hyssop. It is also the name for a condiment made from dried hyssop leaves, mixed with sesame seeds, dried sumac, and often salt, as well as other spices. Used in Levantine cuisine, both the herb and spice mixture are popular throughout the Middle East. Moreover, Za’atar has become a symbol of Palestinian culture and has always symbolized a link to the land.

ESSENTIAL OIL OF ORIGANUM SYRIACUM

For the highest quality, this essential oil of Origanum syriacum obtained by steam distillation of flowers and Leaves of plants cultivated under standard conditions in order to guarantee 100% pure, natural, integral and aromatherapy grade. 

BIOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Chemical composition is affected by soil, season, cultivation condition and time of harvesting.   

76.58% – Phenols.
13.89% – Monoterpenes.
6.45% – Sesquiterpenes.

Major components of the oil are as the following: - Carvacrol: 40 to 80%, Thymol: 10 to 30%, Gamma-Terpinen 3 to 5 %, Thymoquinone: 2 to 3%, Linalool 1 to 3 %.

However, the effects of the oils on health issues are different among chemicals profile, personal state, mode of use and oils quality.

What does a good Zaatar essential oil look like?

Appearance: limpid mobile liquid

Color: light yellow to brownish yellow

Odor: Phenol and characteristic of carvacrol and thymol

Vigilance! The essential oil of Origanum syriacum is very powerful and has many health benefits, it has a high causticity! It is reserved for adults and teenagers and for exceptional occasions; it should be used for very short times (2 weeks maximum)

MAIN PROPERTIES

This oil is mainly composed of (carvacrol and thymol) are the most powerful anti-infectious molecules, they directly kill the germs by destruction of their cell membrane.

EXAMPLES ON POSSIBLE USE:

Daily Oral intake of 4 drops in capsule after lunch during two weeks can help:

• Fight some intestinal parasites

• Possibly stimulate many functions of the body and help maintain a good general state of form.  

• Strengthen immune defenses.   

• Improve memory.

• Repel fatigue and improve mental and sexual functions.

• Mixing 10% of the essential oil with 90% of carrier oil as black seed oil or sesame oil

• Possibly thin accumulated secretions in the mucous coatings when rubbed on the chest. 

• Help release the airway facilitating sputum and respiration when diffused. 

• It can be used as a natural cure for some skin fungal infection.

This oil can be blend well with frankincense oil, Inula viscosa oil and peppermint oil.

• Note: It is preferable to test the essential oil before use (Rub one drop in the elbow for at least 4 hours to verify that there is no reaction).
  

PRECAUTIONS

People with asthma or epileptics must seek medical advice before using this essential oil. Indeed, Oregano essential oil has a high risk epileptogenic risk.

Must be diluted to 10% for application on the skin (10% essential oil in 90% vegetable oil). It must be applied on small surfaces.

Must not be diffused pure, it must be diluted between 5 and 10% in other essential oils.

For pregnant women more than three months, its use is possible in atmospheric diffusion.

Oral consumption of this essential oil is possible and reserved for medical prescription. (you can put 2 to 4 drops in empty capsule for oral intake).

Ingesting more than 6 drops can cause a staggering action.

If a reaction happens then wash the area with pure olive oil. 

Should not be used more than 14 consecutive days, and make a pause for two weeks to restart again.
